Hot Stone Therapy FAQ’s

Q. What is hot stone massage?
A. Hot stone massage is deeply relaxing and healing form of Swedish massage that incorporates the use of flatly shaped heated stones of varying sizes.

The very first version of hot stone massage, called LaStone therapy, was invented in the early 90’s by a native of Tucson, Arizona, Mary Hannigan.

Q. How does hot stone massage work?
A. Hot stones are sanitized and heated to a specific temperature by your therapist. She then incorporates the use of the stones with traditional Swedish massage therapy techniques. The heat of the stones promotes an incredibly deep and fast acting relaxation of your muscles. It is difficult to describe the intense relaxation you will feel during and after your hot stone massage; it is highly recommended that you give it a try and bask in the glow of your experience!

Q. Is hot stone massage painful?
A. Hot stone massage should not be at all painful or uncomfortable. Should you feel that the stones are too hot or the pressure is too intense, it is important to let your therapist know immediately. Typically, if your therapist is experienced, as we are at You Potentiality, this will not be an issue.

Q. Why do I need or want hot stone massage?
A. Hot stone massage helps relax tight muscles and improve your body’s energy flow. Many clients find the massage to relieve all over body tension and headaches, as well.

Q. Why choose You Potentiality for my hot stone massage therapy session?
A. Your You Potentiality therapist is very experienced in the art and science of hot stone massage. You can take comfort knowing that we are properly trained, and understand the process of sanitizing and heating your hot stones before your therapy session begins.

We are also very skilled and knowledgeable in additional forms of massage; we are able to feel and read your body’s signals, ensuring that your session will be therapeutic, and rejuvenating, instead of simply a “feel good” massage.
